I discovered my inspiration as an artist while travelling the world and spending years in Asia exploring different landscapes, cultures and ways of life.
It was an illuminating experience and awakened a dream in me to create art.
Vietnam Art inspired me to start my journey as an artist. I had the opportunity to paint alongside my Vietnamese art teacher for a number of years, and even though I am back in my native South Africa, my art continues to be influenced by Eastern philosophy and methods of painting.
I also find inspiration in the art of Japan and traditional ink paintings, and love painting bamboo using my favourite medium oil paints while striving to create the delicacy of ink paintings.
Many of my paintings are based on actual places that I have visited not only in Asia but here at home too. Photographs taken during my visits are later used as a reference for my paintings. I also like to work from life models and from my imagination, drawing on my experience as an artist.
